Our Family's Journey Through Time
After many years of collaborating with family members, gathering photos and histories, using Ancestry.com, and who knows how many genealogy programs, I think we’ve finally found a way to document our research so that any family member can see it. Currently, this website is private and is limited to members of the Fleming and Norwood families. To receive username and password, click Contact Us at the top or bottom of the page.
If you already have these credentials, go ahead and explore. At the upper right you can click on either the Fleming side of the family or the Norwood side. You can use the main menu at the top to navigate the site. This site is under development so it only has a fraction of the information available. Questions, corrections, and additions are welcome, just use “Contact Us.” Thank you!
Ann Fleming Birch
We are indebted to a number of people who have provided information and research that resulted in this website. On the Norwood side: Susan Huwaldt, Pat Phillips, Irene Norwood, Ann Birch, Vicki Hastings, Fred Fleming, Sharee Fleming, Maude Black; on the Fleming side: Enola Dunbar, Sharee Fleming, Ann Birch, Elmer Coleman, Vicki Hastings, Fred Fleming. We'd also like to recognize the contributions of Rose Anne Farmer Hoekstra and Mary Coleman Henderson and their work on the Sheffer Pioneer Cemetery book.
We start our journey with Bill and Sharee [Norwood] Fleming. Both were born in Nebraska and raised on farms. Bill was born in 1921 and lived to be 74. Sharee was born in 1922 and lived to be 83. They were married for 25 years, divorcing in 1967. Neither remarried. Their lives took them from Nebraska to Washington to Arkansas to New Jersey and to South Dakota.
Their descendants are part of the genealogy, although details on persons still living are not shown. We have history on both Bill’s and Sharee’s sides going back to the 1700s. Photos, more details, and documents can be found by searching on either name. (Women are always searched on their maiden name.) Later, we’ll be adding some oral and written histories, but we’re not quite ready with those yet.
Another note on names. Bill is referred to as “Bill” throughout the genealogy. He used this name all his adult life, although he was originally named Billye. Sharee was originally named “Mattie,” but she legally changed her name to “Sharee” and used that name all her adult life. “Sharee” is used throughout the genealogy even though there are still relatives who call her “Mattie.” We used these conventions even for photos and documents when the two were young to lessen confusion.
Click on a surname to get a list of persons with that name.
We make every effort to document our research. If you have something you would like to add or have a correction, please contact us.
